Diazo-Photopolymer (Dual-Cure) Emulsions
Ulano's
diazo-photopolymer emulsions represent a dynamic step forward in dual-cure
technology. The Ulano LX series of dual-cure emulsions provide higher solids
content, faster exposure times, superior resolution and definition capabilities,
and resistance to both solvent- and water-based inks. Ulano's LX dual-cure
emulsions are partially sensitized and should be handled under yellow safe
light conditions before exposure.
Diazo-photopolymer ("dual-cure") emulsions resemble conventional diazo-sensitized emulsions inasmuch as they are sensitized by diazo resins and contain PVOH and usually PVA. They also contain oil-based water and solvent-resistant acrylate monomers/oligomers, and a photo initiator and accelerator. Because the acrylate increases the emulsion's solids content, it is possible to use less PVA in dual-cures. This spells easier reclaiming and less acetate staining. The high solids contribute to faster drying, sharp stencil shoulders and printing acutance, better mesh bridging, and higher build per coat for relatively lower Rz values.
Q-TRT
Q-TRT direct emulsion is formulated for perfect, computer- to-screen thermal
ribbon transfers. It’s a premixed, SBQ pure photopolymer emulsion
that, after coating and drying, provides special surface properties that
readily accept thermal ribbon transfers of stencil “artwork” directly
onto the emulsion surface—completely and with superb image- edge
sharpness.
Q-TRT has excellent humidity resistance and resists solvent-based printing
inks used for imprinted sportswear.
- Special surface properties trap thermal ribbon transfers perfectly
and with superior edge definition - Excellent humidity resistance
- Resists most solvent-based inks used for imprinted sportswear
QT-THIX
Although we continue to think that the factory-controlled thickness and
ease of use of
CDF®/QT Thick-Film make this the stencil system of choice
for high density and other
applications requiring exceptionally thick stencils
and ink deposits, we have released
QT-THIXdirect emulsion, specially formulated
for the production of ultra-thick stencils on
coarse mesh using water-based
or non-aggressive solvent inksor pastes. It is a ready-to-use, SBQ emulsion
featuring:
- High (52%) solids content for excellent build per coat, better mesh bridging on coarse screens, and lower Rz values for sharper printed edges
- Very high viscosity (50,000 CPS) for easier control during coating; facilitates
thick stencils
without face coats and intermediate dryings - Very fast exposure; polymerization is dependable, assuring durability and ink resistance
- Water resistance; also resists most washup solvents, will not become
tacky under high
humidity conditions, and has excellent wet strength - Red color for easy stencil inspection, even on dyed mesh

Technical Data Sheet
LX-892 is extremely resistant to abrasion and holds up very well under shop
conditions of high temperature and ambient humidty. LX-892 is formulated
to produce stencils that are extremely resistant to the pastes and inks
used in the ceramics industry, using flat or cylindrical screens. It is
particularly suitable for printing floor tiles, single-, double-, or triple-fired
glazed tiles, and porcelainized stoneware. It is very resistant to water-
and solvent-based mediums, and blends used in the ceramic industry for direct
printing or decals. It can also be used for many other demanding mediums
printing such as water-based inks for textiles.
L
X-892 can be catalyzed using Hardener
D to make stencils resistant for longer printing runs. Hardener D is
a solution developed especially to produce a chemical polymerization of
the stencil that does not damage screen mesh. Reinforced screens can be
very hard to reclaim. Before reinforcement, however, screens can be reclaimed
easily using one of the stencil removers manufactured by Ulano: Stencil
Remover Nos. 4, 42, 44, or 5.
Thanks to its very high solids content and medium-high viscosity, it produces stencils of high resolution with excellent definition, providing a superior build up of emulsion with each coating pass, excellent mesh bridging on coarse mesh, as well as rapid drying.
LX-892 is blue for easy see-through registration and inspection on white or dyed mesh It turns brown when sensitized and when properly exposed, LX-892 will revert to its original blue color, serving as a built-in indicator of proper exposure.
